The Greylag Goose is one of the 16 species of geese worldwide, and in Korea, 11 species are recorded, including the Red-breasted Goose, Black Goose, Canada Goose, White Goose, White-headed Goose, Bar-headed Goose, Barnacle Goose, Greylag Goose, Bean Goose, White-fronted Goose, and Greater White-fronted Goose. The Greylag Goose is known as the ancestor of Western geese.

This species breeds in northern and central Eurasia and winters in Europe, North Africa, China, and India. In Korea, it is a rare and uncommon sight, observed as a migratory bird that has lost its way. It is a large goose, measuring around 74-78cm in length, with both males and females having a similar appearance. The entire body is grey-brown, with pink beaks and legs being distinctive features.

In Kimje City, known as a major stopover site for migratory birds, two Greylag Geese were observed on February 7th, and they have been confirmed to be living among a flock of around 300 Greater White-fronted Geese. However, as they are considered rare birds and not regular winter migrants, it is difficult to predict when they will leave.
