국립민속국악원(원장 김중현)은 지난 9월 5일, 전날에 이어 중국 베이징에서 중국을 대표하는 종합 공연단체인 중국동방연예그룹(中国东方演艺集团有限公司)과 회담을 갖고 상호 교류 공연 추진을 논의했다. 이번 만남은 한국 전통예술과 중국 공연예술이 만날 수 있는 가능성을 확인한 자리였다.

중국동방연예그룹은 1952년 창설된 ‘중국동방가무단’(中国东方歌舞团)을 전신으로 하며, 중국 문화관광부 산하의 국영 공연단체이다. 가무단(歌舞团)·무용단(舞蹈团)·기악단(器乐团)·합창단(合唱团) 등 다양한 전문 예술단원 약 600명을 보유한 종합 예술그룹으로 성장하였고, 지금까지 100여 개 국가와 지역에서 공연하며 국제 문화예술 교류의 창구 역할을 수행해 왔다.

이번 회담에는 중국동방연예그룹 부총경리 겸 이사 장레이(张蕾)가 자리해 협력에 대한 중국 측의 적극적인 의지를 확인할 수 있었다. 장레이 이사는 2023년 문화체육관광부 주최 ‘제8회 한·중·일 문화예술교육 포럼’에도 참석한 바 있어, 한국 문화예술계와의 교류 경험을 지닌 인사로 알려져 있다.

양측은 ▲ 초청 공연과 ▲ 연출가·연주자 교류를 통한 교육·연수 기회 확대 등을 논의하며, 향후 단계적으로 협력의 외연을 넓혀가자는 데 뜻을 모았다. 이번 협의는 실질적인 공연 교류의 출발점으로, 장기적으로 다양한 형태의 협력으로 발전할 가능성을 열어 두었다.

국립민속국악원은 이번 회담 이후에도 긴밀히 연락을 이어가며 실질적인 협력 방안을 모색하고 있다. 향후 단계적 논의를 통해 양 기관이 함께할 수 있는 공연 기회를 구체화할 계획이다.

김중현 원장은 “중국동방연예그룹은 세계 무대에서 이미 높은 평가를 받고 있는 단체로, 이번 협의는 각국이 추구하는 문화 교류와 상생의 흐름과도 맞닿아 있다”면서, “우리 대한민국 역시 문화의 힘으로 상호 이해와 협력을 넓혀가고 있으며, 이번 협의를 통해 한국과 중국이 함께 아시아의 문화를 풍성하게 만들어 나가고, 그 매력을 세계에 널리 알릴 수 있는 계기가 되기를 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

The National Gugak Center (Director Kim Joong-hyun) held discussions with China's leading comprehensive performing arts group, the China Oriental Performing Arts Group (中国东方演艺集团有限公司), in Beijing, China, on September 5th. This meeting, following the previous day's discussions, focused on promoting mutual cultural exchanges and performances, exploring the possibilities of combining Korean traditional arts with Chinese performing arts.

The China Oriental Performing Arts Group, established in 1952 as the China Oriental Song and Dance Ensemble (中国东方歌舞团), is a state-owned performing arts group under the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It has grown into a comprehensive arts group with about 600 professional members in various divisions such as song and dance, dance, instrumental, and choir, and has played a role as a gateway for international cultural and arts exchanges by performing in over 100 countries and regions.

During the discussions, Zhang Lei, the Deputy General Manager and Director of the China Oriental Performing Arts Group, expressed China's strong willingness for cooperation. Zhang Lei, who also participated in the 8th Korea-China-Japan Cultural and Arts Education Forum hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in 2023, is known for her experience in cultural and arts exchanges with the Korean cultural community.

Both sides discussed expanding opportunities for collaboration through invited performances, exchanges of directors and performers, and enhancing educational and training opportunities. They agreed to gradually broaden the scope of cooperation in the future, viewing this meeting as the starting point for substantial performance exchanges, with the potential to develop into various forms of collaboration in the long term.

Following this meeting, the National Gugak Center will continue to maintain close communication to explore practical cooperation measures. They plan to solidify performance opportunities that both institutions can participate in through future discussions.

Director Kim Joong-hyun stated, "The China Oriental Performing Arts Group is already highly regarded on the world stage, and this discussion aligns with the global trend of cultural exchanges and mutual prosperity pursued by each country." He further expressed, "South Korea is also expanding mutual understanding and cooperation through the power of culture, and through this discussion, I hope that Korea and China can enrich the culture of Asia together and promote its charm worldwide."
