전북교육청은 도내 다문화학생의 한국어 능력 향상을 위해 올해 ‘찾아가는 한국어교육’을 대폭 확대해 운영한다고 3일 밝혔다.
다문화 학생 수는 해마다 증가하고 있으며, 2024년 기준 전체 학생의 5.03%인 9,010명에 달한다. 이에 따라 전북교육청은 유·초·중·고 학생을 대상으로 신청을 받아 4월부터 한국어교육을 본격 실시하고 있으며, 현재까지 300여 명이 신청한 것으로 나타났다.
지난해 운영 결과, 듣기·말하기·읽기·쓰기 4개 영역에서 학생들의 평균 성취도가 5.1점에서 8.9점으로 향상되는 등 교육 효과가 입증됐다. 이에 따라 강사 인력도 기존 130여 명에서 160여 명으로 증원됐다.
강사들은 학생의 한국어 수준을 진단한 후 생활 중심의 맞춤형 한국어교육을 진행하며, 교육 전문성 강화를 위한 연수와 안전교육도 사전에 이수했다. 학기 중 입국하는 다문화 학생에게도 지속적인 교육 지원이 이뤄질 예정이다.
