전북도립미술관(관장 이애선)은 전주국제영화제 기간에 전북지역 독립큐레이터들과 협업으로 지난 30일부터 서신갤러리 한옥마을관에서 2025 찾아가는 미술관 《이 문장은 검열되었습니다》을 개최한다. 독립전시기획자 이길빈과 한준이 기획하고, 김영봉, 문채원, 박성은, 이산, 임현채가 전시에 참여한다.

《이 문장은 검열되었습니다》는 스스로 검열해서‘불쾌함’과 ‘불편함’을 삭제한 채, 안전한 관계를 유지할 수 있는 발화만 남은 자기 검열 시대를 되돌아보고, 말하지 않은 감정들, 주워 담지 못한 문장들, 설명할 수 없는 조형들에 귀를 기울인다.

이번 전시는‘검열된 감각’의 잔여를 붙잡는 5명의 다양한 작업들을 통해, 문장 사이 침묵과 발화의 경계에서 다시 관계를 묻는 행동이다. 그리고 끝내 내뱉지 못했던 말들을 건네고, 침묵이라는 검열을 공동의 감각으로 되돌려 놓는 자리이기도 하다. 말해지지 않은 것들, 지워진 것들, 스스로 접어둔 문장들을 다시 꺼내 보이며, 전시의 제목을 통해 “이 작품은, 이 도시는, 이 문장은 검열되었습니까?”라는 선언이자 질문을 다시 표현해낸다.

기획자 이길빈은 “이번 전시는 검열이나 억압의 구조를 고발하는 데서 그치지 않고, 그로 인해 침묵한 감각을 어떻게 회복할 수 있을지 묻는 시도”라며 “예술을 통해 발언이 아닌 감각의 연대를 모색하는 자리를 만들고자 했다”고 밝혔다.

2일과 3일에는 전시와 연계된 오프닝 프로그램이 열린다. 2일 금요일에는 오후 7시부터 팀 예술곁에의 <홍반장들의 0작소>가 열리고 3일 오후 6시 30분에는 참여작가 이산의 퍼포먼스 <시선 One’s eyes>가, 7시부터는 팀 예술곁에의 퍼포먼스 <홍반장들의 0작소>가 진행된다.

전시는 6월 1일까지이며, 개관시간은 오후 1시에서 오후 6시까지이고, 무료관람이며, 월화는 휴관한다.

서신갤러리 한옥마을관은 전주미공보원, 전주예술회관, 전주시립도서관, 전주성모간호교육원 등으로 사용된 건물이며, 특히 미공보원이 1952년에 전라북도미술제를 비롯한 다양한 전시를 개최한 공간이고, 1978년에 전북현대미술제가 개최되었던 전북미술사에서 중요한 장소이다.

Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art (Director Lee Ae-sun) is hosting the art exhibition "This Sentence is Censored" at the Seosin Gallery Hanok Village Hall in collaboration with independent curators from Jeonbuk during the Jeonju International Film Festival from the 30th of last month. The exhibition, titled "The Art Museum Going to 2025," is curated by independent exhibition planners Lee Gil-bin and Han Jun, with participation from Kim Young-bong, Moon Chae-won, Park Sung-eun, Lee San, and Im Hyun-chae.

"This Sentence is Censored" reflects on the era of self-censorship where discomfort and unease are eliminated by self-censoring, leaving only safe expressions to maintain secure relationships. The exhibition focuses on unspoken emotions, uncollected sentences, and inexplicable forms. Through the works of five artists grasping the remnants of "censored senses," the exhibition prompts a reevaluation of relationships at the boundary between silence and expression. It also provides a space to hand over unspoken words and restore the censorship of silence as a shared sense. By bringing out the unsaid, erased, and folded-away sentences, the exhibition rephrases the declaration and question, "Is this artwork, this city, this sentence censored?"

Curator Lee Gil-bin stated, "This exhibition is an attempt not only to expose the structure of censorship or oppression but also to inquire how we can recover the senses silenced by them," adding, "I aimed to create a space for seeking solidarity of senses through art rather than mere speech."

On the 2nd and 3rd, opening programs related to the exhibition will be held. On Friday the 2nd, the team Artbye will present "Hongbanjang's 0jaks" from 7 p.m., and on the 3rd at 6:30 p.m., artist Lee San's performance "One's eyes" will take place, followed by the team Artbye's performance "Hongbanjang's 0jaks" at 7 p.m.

The exhibition runs until June 1st, with opening hours from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., free admission, and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Seosin Gallery Hanok Village Hall is a building that was previously used as Jeonju Art Museum, Jeonju Cultural Center, Jeonju City Library, and Jeonju St. Mary's Nursing Education Institute. Particularly, the Art Museum was a space that hosted various exhibitions, including the Jeolla-do Art Festival in 1952, and is an important location in Jeonbuk art history where the Jeonbuk Contemporary Art Festival was held in 1978.
