전주 도심 공원에 수리부엉이 서식

수리부엉이는 올빼미과에 속하는 새다. 올빼미과는 세계 221종이나 되며 한국에는 9종이 서식한다. 수리부엉이, 올빼미, 긴점박이올빼미, 큰소쩍새는 텃새며, 솔부엉이, 소쩍새는 여름철새, 쇠부엉이, 칡부엉이는 월동하며, 금눈쇠올빼미는 북부 지방에서 번식한다.

수리부엉이는 한국의 올빼미과 중 가장 크다. 크기는 64~67㎝로 암컷이 약간 크다. 큰 몸집과 긴 귀깃(우이)으로 쉽게 구별된다. 눈은 주황색을 띤 노란색이며 둥지 안의 어린 새는 눈이 노란색이다. 수리부엉이는 암벽이 많은 산림에 주로 서식한다. 간혹 고목나무 구엉에 둥지를 틀기도 한다. 야행성으로 밤에 활동하며 번식기에는 밤낮을 가리지 않고 활동한다. 먹잇감으로는 꿩, 토끼, 청설모, 다람쥐 등이다. 자연에 먹이 감이 부족하여 사람이 키우는 닭을 습격하여 피해를 주는 경우도 있다. 1~3월에 흰색 알 2~3개 낳으며 포란기간은 34~36일이다. 육추기간은 36일 정도이다. 암컷이 전적으로 알을 품어 부화하며 수컷은 둥지를 지키는 일과 먹이를 공급한다. 어린 새끼를 키울 때는 나누어 먹이지만, 어미새는 통째로 먹고 털이나 뼈는 토해낸다. 이것을 ‘펠릿’이라 한다. 이 펠릿을 보고 어떤 것을 먹잇감으로 했는지를 알 수 있다.

천연기념물,멸종위기야생동식물 2급인 수리부엉이가 지난 겨울부터 전주시 효자동 백로공원에 둥지를 틀고 포란과 육추를 무사히 마쳐 6월 15일 현재 어린새 2마리와 어미새가 살고 있다.

When raising young, they divide the food, with the female consuming it whole and regurgitating fur and bones as pellets. By examining these pellets, one can determine their prey.

The Ural owl, designated as a Natural Monument and a second-level Endangered Wild Animal, successfully nested and raised young in Baekro Park in Hyoja-dong, Jeonju City, since last winter. As of June 15, there are two fledglings and the mother owl present.
