원광대학교(총장 박성태)는 남수단 고등교육과학기술부와 (사)이태석재단과 교육, 보건의료, 농업기술 등 다양한 분야에서의 협력을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다.

지난 19일 대학 본관 회의실에서 열린 이번 협약식에는 박성태 총장을 비롯해 농생명·의생명 분야 주요 교수진과 남수단 고등교육과학기술부의 마둣 비아르 옐 장관, 그리고 (사)이태석재단의 구수환 이사장 등 각 기관 관계자가 참석했다.

협약을 통해 원광대는 의생명·농생명 분야 인재양성을 위한 연수 프로그램 및 교육·연구 협력을 제공하고, 남수단 고등교육과학기술부는 학생 선발의 공정성과 한국 전문가 방문 시 안전 확보를 책임지기로 했다. 한편, (사)이태석재단은 협약 참가 인원의 신원 보장을 맡기로 했다.

박성태 총장은 “원광대는 지난 60여 년간 보건의료 인재를 양성해왔으며, 이번 협력이 남수단의 보건과 농업 역량 강화에 실질적인 기여를 하길 기대한다”고 전했다.
마둣 비아르 옐 장관은 “이태석 신부님의 인도주의적 헌신과 한국 국민의 따뜻한 마음에 감동받았다”며, “이번 협력은 의료와 농업을 비롯한 교육 전반에 있어 매우 의미 있는 기회”라고 말했다.
구수환 이사장은 “남수단 청년들에게 희망의 불씨가 되도록 교육과 인도적 지원을 확대하길 바라며, 이번 MOU가 국제 협력 모델로 자리매김하길 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

Wonkwang University (President Park Sung-tae) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of South Sudan and the Itaeseok Foundation to collaborate in various fields such as education, healthcare, and agricultural technology.

The signing ceremony took place on the 19th at the main building of the university, attended by President Park Sung-tae, key professors in the fields of agriculture and life sciences, Minister Madut Biar Yel of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of South Sudan, and Director Gu Su-hwan of the Itaeseok Foundation.

Through the agreement, Wonkwang University will provide training programs and educational and research cooperation for talent development in the fields of life sciences and agriculture, while the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of South Sudan will ensure fairness in student selection and safety for visiting Korean experts. The Itaeseok Foundation will be responsible for ensuring the identities of the participants in the agreement.

President Park Sung-tae expressed his hopes that the collaboration will make a substantial contribution to enhancing healthcare and agricultural capabilities in South Sudan, stating, "For over 60 years, Wonkwang University has been nurturing healthcare professionals, and we hope this collaboration will contribute significantly to strengthening healthcare and agriculture in South Sudan."

Minister Madut Biar Yel was moved by the dedication of Father Itaeseok and the warm hearts of the Korean people, calling the collaboration a very meaningful opportunity for education, including healthcare and agriculture.

Director Gu Su-hwan expressed his hope that the MOU will expand education and humanitarian support to become a beacon of hope for the youth of South Sudan, and he expects this agreement to establish itself as a model for international cooperation.
