2023년 전북특별자치도립국악원 무용단 정기공연 초연 작품으로 호평을 받았던 ‘고섬섬’이 독일 오페라 극장에서 공연된다.

도립국악원 무용단은 오는 27일 독일 베를린 슈타츠오퍼 국립오페라극장(Staatsoper Berlin)에서 무용단의 대표 레퍼토리인‘고섬섬’을 선보인다.

이번 공연은 독일 현대연극의 거장이자 베르톨트 브레히트의 수제자로 유명한 아힘 프라이어가 운영하는 아힘 프라이어 재단과의 공동기획으로 추진된다. 아힘 프라이어는 150편 이상의 오페라와 연극을 연출한 세계적인 연출가로, 외국인 최초로 <수궁가>를 연출하며 한국에서도 널리 알려졌다. 이번 공연은 국제 예술계와의 실질적 협업이라는 점에서도 큰 의미를 지닌다.

‘고섬섬’은 부안 위도에서 전승되는 국가무형유산 <띠뱃놀이>를 재구성해 무대화한 창작작품으로 관객과 전문가들로부터 꾸준한 호평을 받아왔으며, 무용단의 대표 레퍼토리로 자리 잡았다.

베를린 슈타츠오퍼 국립오페라극장은 1742년에 건립된 극장 중 하나로, 세계 오페라계에서도 가장 권위 있는 공연장으로 손꼽힌다. 독일 문화의 중심이자 유럽 공연예술의 상징적 공간에서 전북의 전통예술이 펼쳐진다는 점에서 그 의미가 크다.

베를린 공연은 이혜경 예술감독이 무용단 부임 후 오랫동안 준비해온 프로젝트로 유영대 원장의 문화교류 경험과 이혜경 예술감독의 국제무대 활동 경력을 바탕으로 성사됐다.

이혜경 예술감독은 유럽 주요 무대에서 한국 창작무용을 소개했다. 한국 무용가 최초로 유럽 국립극장의 시즌 공연 안무를 지도했으며, 이는 파격적이고 이례적인 일로써 화제의 대상이었다. 특히 한국 전통춤을 바탕으로 한 창작무용‘달에 홀린 피에로’(Pierrot Lunaire)는 유럽 무용계에 주목을 받았었으며, 이렇게 다양한 경험을 바탕으로 국제 문화교류의 기반을 꾸준히 다져왔다.

국악원은 이번 공연과 연계해 주독일 외교관 및 대외 귀빈을 위한 공식 초청과 리셉션도 함께 진행될 예정이며, 관련 장소에 대한 협의 역시 마무리된 상태다. 국악원은 이 자리를 통해 전통예술로 외교적 교류와 국제 네트워크 확장이라는 실질적 효과를 도모할 계획이다.

한편 이번 무대는 한국 예술단체로는 최초로 슈타츠오퍼 무대에 오르는 공연으로, 2036 하계올림픽 유치를 위한 문화외교의 시작점이자 전북 고유 전통문화의 세계 진출을 알리는 상징적 공연이 될 것으로 기대를 모은다.

On the 27th, the dance troupe of the National Gugak Center will present "Goseomseom," their representative repertoire, at the Staatsoper Berlin in Germany.

This performance is being jointly planned with the Ahn Pire Foundation, operated by Ahn Pire, a master of modern German theater and a disciple of Bertolt Brecht. Ahn Pire, a world-renowned director who has directed over 150 operas and plays, gained recognition in Korea for being the first foreigner to direct "Sugungga." This performance holds significant meaning as a substantial collaboration with the international arts community.

"Goseomseom" is a creative work that reinterprets the national intangible cultural heritage "Ttibaetnori" passed down from Buan Wido, receiving consistent praise from audiences and experts. It has become the dance troupe's representative repertoire.

The Staatsoper Berlin is one of the theaters built in 1742 and is considered one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. The fact that traditional arts from Jeonbuk are being showcased in a symbolic space of European performing arts and German cultural center holds great significance.

The Berlin performance is a project that Artistic Director Lee Hye-kyung has been preparing for a long time since taking office at the dance troupe. It was made possible based on the cultural exchange experience of Director Yoo Young-dae and the international stage career of Artistic Director Lee Hye-kyung.

Artistic Director Lee Hye-kyung has introduced Korean creative dance on major European stages. She was the first Korean dancer to choreograph a season performance at a European national theater, which was a groundbreaking and exceptional event. In particular, the creative dance "Pierrot Lunaire," based on Korean traditional dance, garnered attention in the European dance scene, laying a steady foundation for international cultural exchange through such diverse experiences.

In connection with this performance, the National Gugak Center plans to hold an official invitation and reception for German diplomats and foreign dignitaries, with discussions finalized regarding the related venues. The National Gugak Center aims to promote practical effects of diplomatic exchange and expansion of international networks through traditional arts at this event.

This stage marks the first performance by a Korean arts organization at the Staatsoper, and it is expected to be a symbolic performance heralding the start of cultural diplomacy for hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics and the global expansion of Jeonbuk's unique traditional culture.
