몇 년 전에는 중국 정부가 직접 나서서 APA 호텔에 대한 불매운동을 진행하기도 했고, 한국에서는 많은 누리꾼들이 동참하기도 했다.
서 교수는 "과거 일본에 의해 가장 많은 고통과 희생을 당한 한국, 중국 등 동아시아 국가들이 참가하는 동아시안컵에 이런 기업의 후원을 받았다는 건 명백한 잘못"이라고 비판했다.
특히 "아무리 많은 비용을 후원한다 하더라도 주최측은 기업에 대한 정보를 정확히 파악한 후 계약을 체결했어야만 했다"고 덧붙였다.
아울러 "주최측인 동아시아축구연맹(EAFF)은 아시아 축구 팬들에게 공식 사과를 하고, 다시는 이런 일이 재발하지 않도록 주의해야 할 것"이라고 강조했다.
