(재)전주문화재단(대표이사 최락기)이 국가무형유산 악기장 고수환 ‘일품공예 특별전’을 오는 17일까지 전주한옥마을 내 전주공예품전시관에서 개최한다.

올해로 3회째를 맞는 이번 전시는 무형 유산 장인의 삶과 작품 세계를 조명하기 위해 매년 기획되는 전시로, 단 한번의 정성과 솜씨로 완성한 최고의 공예작품을 뜻하는‘일품(一品)’이라는 이름을 내걸고 있다.

이번 전시는 국가무형유산 악기장 고수환 장인이 제작한 △슬 △정악 가야금 △산조 거문고 △산조 아쟁 △옻칠 해금 등 전통 현악기 10여 점을 선보이며, 장인의 60여 년 공예 인생과 장인 정신을 깊이 있게 들여다본다.

특히 이번 전시는 장인이 오랜 시간 연구하고 지켜온 전통 제작 방식 그대로 현악기를 제작한 점에서 더욱 주목할 만하다. 나무를 고르는 일부터 악기의 세밀한 마감까지, 장인의 손끝에서 완성된 악기들은 단순한 전시를 넘어 전통의 가치와 깊이를 전달한다.

고수환 장인은 좋은 소리를 내기 위한 연구에 평생을 바쳐왔으며, 악기의 구조를 정확히 이해하기 위해 직접 가야금을 배우고 연주법을 익히기도 했다. 그는 “악기 제작의 핵심은 좋은 소리를 내는 데 있으며, 짐작만으로는 그 소리를 구현할 수 없다”며 “더 정확한 소리를 찾기 위해 가야금 명인에게 연주법을 사사했고, 그 덕분에 연주 실력을 겸비한 악기장이 될 수 있었다”고 말했다.

최락기 전주문화재단 대표이사는 “앞으로도 전주문화재단은 우리 전통을 지켜온 무형유산 장인을 소개해 나갈 계획”이라며“진정한 장인 정신을 담아 깊은 감동을 선사하며 자신만의 전통 기술을 묵묵히 이어가는 장인에게 많은 관심과 응원을 부탁드린다”고 전했다.

더불어 이번 전시는 오전 10시부터 오후 8시까지 운영되며, 관람료는 무료다. 매주 월요일은 정기휴관이다.

The Jeonju Cultural Foundation (CEO Choi Rak-gi) will be hosting the 'Masterpiece Craft Special Exhibition' by the national intangible cultural heritage instrument master, Go Su-hwan, at the Jeonju Craft Exhibition Hall in Jeonju Hanok Village until the 17th.

This exhibition, now in its third year, is an annual event planned to shed light on the lives and artistic worlds of intangible cultural heritage artisans. It is named 'Masterpiece (一品)' to signify the finest craftsmanship completed with a single act of dedication and skill.

In this exhibition, Go Su-hwan, a master of national intangible cultural heritage instruments, will showcase around 10 traditional string instruments such as the Seul, Jeongak Gayageum, Sanjo Geomungo, Sanjo Ajaeng, and Otchil Haegum. The exhibition delves deeply into the artisan's 60-year career in craftsmanship and the spirit of the artisan.

Particularly noteworthy in this exhibition is the fact that the instruments were made following traditional production methods that the artisan has studied and preserved for a long time. From selecting the wood to the intricate finishing of the instruments, the pieces completed by the artisan's hands convey not just a simple exhibition but also the value and depth of tradition.

Go Su-hwan has dedicated his life to researching how to produce beautiful sounds, even learning to play the Gayageum himself to accurately understand the structure of the instruments. He stated, "The essence of instrument-making lies in producing beautiful sounds, and one cannot achieve that sound through guesswork alone." He further mentioned, "To find a more accurate sound, I learned the playing techniques from Gayageum masters, which allowed me to become an instrument maker with both craftsmanship and musical skills."

Choi Rak-gi, the CEO of the Jeonju Cultural Foundation, expressed, "In the future, the Jeonju Cultural Foundation plans to continue introducing intangible cultural heritage artisans who have preserved our traditions." He added, "We ask for a lot of interest and support for artisans who quietly carry on their own traditional skills, providing deep emotions with true artisan spirit."

The exhibition will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with free admission. Regular closure on Mondays. If it is difficult to visit in person, the artworks can be viewed through an online exhibition video.
