The National Gugak Center (Director Kim Joong-hyun) will hold a special concert commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day titled
on the 15th at 10:30 a.m. at the Chunhyang Cultural Arts Center in Namwon.
This performance, which received rave reviews from audiences after its premiere at the National Gugak Center in January this year, is planned to reflect on the historical significance of Liberation Day. Based on Namwon's representative 'Chunhyangga', the stage where traditional Korean music and Western music intertwine aims to convey the modern meaning of Liberation Day, which is 'integration and harmony for the future'.
This work, which reinterprets the story of 'Chunhyangga' in oratorio format, unfolds with a diverse composition including Korean traditional orchestra, solo performances, duets, and choir, with over 100 participants including members of the National Gugak Center's Changgeukdan (traditional opera troupe), Gugakdan (traditional music orchestra), Mugyodan (traditional dance troupe), and Yeonhibu, as well as external guest artists. The choir will be led by the Naju City Choir to enhance the richness of the stage.
The production team includes Yoo Soo-jeong (Artistic Director of the National Gugak Center), Song Hyuk-gyu (Director - Baekje Arts College), and Lee Tae-young (Conductor - Hanyang University), with composition by Yoo Min-hee and script and composition by Moon Suk-hyun. Amidst the harmonious collaboration between the Korean traditional orchestra and guest performers, scenes like 'Namwon Scenery', 'Love Song and Farewell Song', 'Gisaeng Jeonggo', 'Shibjangga', 'Ssukdaemori', 'Park Seokti and the Farmer', and 'Amhaeng-eosa Arrival' will fill the stage.
An official from the National Gugak Center stated, "This performance, marking the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, is a moment to honor the sacrifices of those who dedicated themselves to reclaiming the country through traditional Korean music and to reflect on how the freedom and culture we enjoy today have been passed down," adding, "We hope this stage will serve as a place to remember the past and share the values of integration and harmony for the future."
