제30회 부산국제영화제는 올해 한국영화공로상(Korean Cinema Award) 수상자로 정지영 감독을 선정했다. 한국영화공로상은 한국영화 발전에 기여한 영화인에게 수여하는 상으로, 9월 17일에 열리는 개막식에서 시상을 진행한다.

1982년 <안개는 여자처럼 속삭인다>로 데뷔한 정지영 감독은 지난 40여 년간 한국사회의 이면과 시대적 과제를 날카롭게 포착한 작품들을 통해 관객과 평단의 높은 평가를 받아왔다.

특히 <남부군>(1990), <하얀 전쟁>(1992), <헐리우드 키드의 생애>(1994), <부러진 화살>(2011), <남영동1985>(2012), <블랙머니>(2019), <소년들>(2020) 등 사회적 갈등, 인권, 정의를 향한 묵직한 주제를 정면으로 다루며 한국영화사에 깊은 족적을 남겼다.

정지영 감독은 영화감독으로서의 활동을 넘어, 부천국제판타스틱영화제 조직위원장, 아시아나국제단편영화제∙제천국제음악영화제 심사위원장 등을 역임하며 한국영화계의 발전과 후배 영화인 양성에 기여해왔다. 또한 스크린쿼터 수호, 검열제 폐지, 대기업의 스크린 독과점 해소 등 영화산업 구조 개선을 위한 활동에도 힘써오며, 한국영화의 권익과 다양성 수호에 앞장서 왔다.

부산국제영화제 정한석 집행위원장은 “정지영 감독은 오랜 세월 뛰어난 영화감독이었고, 현재에도 최고령 현역 감독으로 신작을 준비중이다. 무엇보다 그의 생애와 영화에는 한국의 역사와 영화사가 오롯이 새겨져 있다. 많은 한국영화인들의 귀감이 되어 온 정지영 감독에게 더없이 기쁜 마음으로 제30회 부산국제영화제 한국영화공로상을 헌사한다” 라고 선정 배경을 밝혔다.

정지영 감독은 수상 소감을 통해 “한국영화 암흑기와 황금기를 모두 거쳐 다시 위기에 처한 2025년 오늘까지 영화 작업을 하고 있다. 이 상은 그 세월을 함께해 온 영화계 선후배 동료 여러분들을 대신해서 받는 상”이라고 밝혔다. 또한 “작년에 저세상으로 떠난 제 아내에게도 고맙다는 말 전하고 싶다”라고 소회를 전했다.

The 30th Busan International Film Festival has selected director Jung Ji-young as the recipient of this year's Korean Cinema Award. The Korean Cinema Award is given to individuals who have contributed to the development of Korean cinema, and the award ceremony will take place at the opening ceremony on September 17.

Debuting in 1982 with "Mist Whispers Like a Woman," director Jung Ji-young has received high praise from audiences and critics over the past 40 years for his works that sharply capture the hidden aspects of Korean society and contemporary issues.

In particular, through films such as "Nambugun" (1990), "White War" (1992), "The Life of Hollywood Kid" (1994), "Broken Arrow" (2011), "National Security 1985" (2012), "Black Money" (2019), and "Boys" (2020), he has made a significant mark on Korean cinema by directly addressing social conflicts, human rights, and justice.

Beyond his work as a film director, Jung Ji-young has also contributed to the development of the Korean film industry and the nurturing of young filmmakers by serving as the organizing committee chairman of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, as well as the judging committee chairman for the Asiana International Short Film Festival and the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival. He has also been actively involved in efforts to improve the film industry structure, such as protecting Screen Quota, abolishing censorship, and resolving the screen monopoly of large corporations, leading the way in safeguarding the rights and diversity of Korean cinema.

Busan International Film Festival Executive Director, Jay Jeong, explained the selection background by stating, "Director Jung Ji-young has been an outstanding film director for many years and is currently preparing for a new film as the oldest active director. Above all, his life and films vividly reflect the history and film industry of Korea. With utmost joy, we dedicate the 30th Busan International Film Festival Korean Cinema Award to Director Jung Ji-young, who has been a mentor to many Korean filmmakers."

In his acceptance speech, Director Jung Ji-young expressed, "Having experienced both the dark and golden ages of Korean cinema, I continue to work on films even in the crisis of today in 2025. This award is for all the colleagues, juniors, and seniors in the film industry who have been with me through those years." He also conveyed his gratitude to his late wife who passed away last year.
