전북을 기반으로 활동하는 창작 국악 그룹 모던판소리(대표 송봉금)가 예술경영지원센터의 해외거점 플랫폼 홍보 주간 참가 단체로 선정되었다. 이번 선정을 통해 모던판소리는 오는 10월, 핀란드 탐페레에서 열리는 세계 최대 월드뮤직 박람회 워맥스(WOMEX) 무대를 향해 나아간다.

모던판소리의 이번 도전은 하루 아침에 이루어진 일이 아니다. 2016년, 송봉금 대표는 스페인 산티아고데콤포스텔라에서 열린 워맥스를 사비로 찾아가 세계 음악시장의 흐름을 직접 체감했다. 그 경험은 한 예술가에게 큰 전환점이 되었고, 이후 모던판소리는 한국을 넘어 여러 나라의 무대에서 다양한 관객과 만나며 자신들만의 독창적인 사운드를 만들어왔다.

판소리의 전통적인 어법을 지키면서도 현대적인 음악 언어를 더해 새로운 작품을 창작해 온 모던판소리는 “전통이 현재와 만나는 순간, 더 큰 미래를 만들어낼 수 있다”는 믿음을 무대 위에서 증명해왔다. 이번 해외거점 플랫폼 사업 선정을 통해 모던판소리는 전북에서 시작된 울림을 세계 무대까지 확장할 수 있는 발판을 마련하게 된 것이다.

송봉금 대표는 “10여 년 전, 처음으로 워맥스 현장을 밟았을 때 언젠가 이곳에서 우리 음악을 공식적으로 소개하고 싶다는 꿈을 꾸었다. 이제 그 꿈이 현실이 되어 너무 기쁘다”며, “한국 전통음악이 지닌 아름다움과 에너지를 세계와 함께 나누고 싶다”고 전했다.

송봉금 대표는 다국적 음악그룹 앙상블 셀레네의 한국 멤버로 활동하며, 아르헨티나 투어 및 일본 스키야키 미츠 더 월드 초청 공연 및 레지던시에 참여하였고, 모던판소리로 말레이시아 페낭 아일랜드 재즈 페스티벌, 아일랜드 더블린 아이리쉬 전통음악 아카이브와의 협업 등 다양한 국제 무대에서 활발히 활동해왔다. 이러한 경험을 바탕으로 그는 한국 전통음악의 뿌리를 지키면서도 세계 예술 시장과 소통하는 독창적인 음악 세계를 펼쳐가고 있다.

이번 해외거점 플랫폼 홍보 주간에는 모던판소리를 비롯해 여러 창의적인 단체들이 함께 참여하며, 한국 공연예술이 세계 예술 시장에서 더 넓고 단단한 길을 열어갈 것으로 기대된다.

The creative traditional Korean music group Modern Pansori, based in Jeonbuk and led by Song Bong-geum, has been selected as a participating organization for the overseas promotion week of the Arts Management Support Center's international base platform. Through this selection, Modern Pansori will advance towards the world's largest world music expo stage, WOMEX, which will be held in Tampere, Finland in October.

The challenge for Modern Pansori this time did not happen overnight. In 2016, Representative Song Bong-geum visited WOMEX in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, experiencing firsthand the trends in the global music market. That experience became a significant turning point for the artist, and since then, Modern Pansori has been creating their unique sound, meeting diverse audiences on stages in various countries beyond Korea.

By preserving the traditional style of Pansori while incorporating modern musical language to create new works, Modern Pansori has proven on stage that "when tradition meets the present, it can create a greater future." Through the selection for the overseas promotion platform project, Modern Pansori has laid the groundwork to expand the resonance that began in Jeonbuk to the global stage.

Representative Song Bong-geum expressed his joy at the realization of a dream he had ten years ago when he first set foot at WOMEX, stating, "I am so happy that the dream of officially introducing our music here has come true." He added, "I want to share the beauty and energy of Korean traditional music with the world."

As a member of the multinational music group Ensemble Céleste, Song Bong-geum has participated in activities such as tours in Argentina and performances and residencies in Japan's Skiyaki Mits The World, as well as actively performing on various international stages with Modern Pansori, including the Penang Island Jazz Festival in Malaysia and collaborations with the Dublin Irish Traditional Music Archive in Ireland. Building on these experiences, he is unfolding a unique musical world that preserves the roots of Korean traditional music while communicating with the global art market.

During the overseas promotion week of the base platform, Modern Pansori and other creative groups will participate together, raising expectations that Korean performing arts will pave a broader and stronger path in the global art market.
