브라질과 이스라엘, 인도네시아에서 각국의 무형유산을 보호하고 전승하는 데 앞장서 온 단체들이 인류가 함께 지키고 보존해야 할 ‘2025 전주세계무형유산대상’ 수상자로 결정됐다.

전주시는 24일 한국전통문화전당 공연장에서 윤동욱 전주부시장과 남관우 전주시의회 의장, 윤순호 국가유산청 무형유산국장 등 내외빈과 국내외 무형유산 전문가 등 200여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘2025 전주세계무형유산대상 시상식’을 개최했다.

올해 전주세계무형유산대상은 국제 공모에 응모한 42개국 90개 팀 중 심사를 거쳐 △브라질의 이에페(Iepé) △이스라엘의 케셋 엔지오(Keshet NGO) △인도네시아의 와양 사삭 인형극 학교(Wayang Sasak Puppetry School)가 최종 수상자로 선정됐다.

먼저 브라질의 ‘이에페’(Iepé)는 원주민 공동체의 문화와 정치, 지속가능성 역량 지원, 토지 관리, 환경 모니터링, 기후변화 대응 등에서 뛰어난 성과를 인정받아 수상자로 결정됐다.

또한 이스라엘의 ‘케셋 엔지오’(Keshet NGO)는 전통 농업기술 및 약용식물 재배지식 기록·보존, 지속 가능한 문화 관광 개발 등 지역 사회, 문화·예술, 환경 보존, 베두인 공동체 지원 등 다양한 프로젝트를 수행한 점 등에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

마지막 수상자인 인도네시아의 ‘와양 사삭 인형극 학교’(Wayang Sasak Puppetry School)는 비정규 인형극 교육 및 사삭 인형극 공연 활동 전개와 상호작용 퍼포먼스 도입으로 실시간 관객 참여를 유도하는 등 전통 인형극을 현대적으로 계승하며, 교육·환경·성평등·지역 발전을 아우르는 문화 거점 역할을 수행해온 공로를 인정받아 수상의 영예를 안았다.

이와 관련 전주세계무형유산대상은 전주가 세계 각국에서 무형유산을 보호·발전시키는 데 앞장서 온 개인·단체를 시상하기 위해 제정한 세계 유일의 국제무형유산상으로, 올해로 7회를 맞았다. 수상 단체에는 전북특별자치도 무형유산 옻칠장 이의식 보유자가 제작한 상패와 함께 각각 미화 1만 달러, 총 3만 달러의 상금이 수여됐다.

Organizations leading the protection and transmission of intangible cultural heritage from Brazil, Israel, and Indonesia have been selected as the winners of the "2025 Jeonju World Intangible Cultural Heritage Award," which humanity should collectively safeguard and preserve.

On the 24th, Jeonju City held the "2025 Jeonju World Intangible Cultural Heritage Award Ceremony" at the Korea Traditional Culture Center, attended by around 200 domestic and international experts in intangible cultural heritage, including Yoon Dong-wook, Vice Mayor of Jeonju, Nam Gwan-woo, Chairman of the Jeonju City Council, and Yoon Soon-ho, Director of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Division of the National Heritage Administration.

This year's Jeonju World Intangible Cultural Heritage Award winners were selected after evaluation from 90 teams representing 42 countries that participated in the international competition. The final winners were Iepé from Brazil, Keshet NGO from Israel, and Wayang Sasak Puppetry School from Indonesia.

Firstly, Brazil's Iepé was recognized for its outstanding achievements in supporting indigenous community culture and politics, sustainable capacity building, land management, environmental monitoring, and climate change adaptation.

Similarly, Israel's Keshet NGO received high praise for various projects such as recording and preserving traditional agricultural techniques and medicinal plant cultivation knowledge, sustainable cultural tourism development, supporting local communities, arts and culture, environmental conservation, and Bedouin community support.

Lastly, Indonesia's Wayang Sasak Puppetry School was honored for modernizing traditional puppetry by conducting informal puppetry education, puppetry performances, and introducing interactive performances to encourage real-time audience participation, serving as a cultural hub encompassing education, environment, gender equality, and regional development.

The Jeonju World Intangible Cultural Heritage Award was established to honor individuals and organizations at the forefront of protecting and developing intangible heritage worldwide. This international intangible heritage award, now in its 7th year, awarded each winning organization with a trophy created by the holder of the intangible heritage of Ottchiljang in Jeollabuk-do, along with a prize of $10,000 each, totaling $30,000.
