전북특별자치도가 최근 일부 언론에서 제기된 2036 전주 하계올림픽 유치 부적격 판정 의혹에 대해 강하게 반박하고 나섰다.

앞서 프레시안은 지난 28일 *“윤준병 ‘경기장 압축배치·총사업비 40% 이상 부담 파장’…2036 전주 하계올림픽 유치 초비상?”*이라는 제목의 보도를 통해 전북의 올림픽 유치 계획에 대한 우려를 전했다. 이에 대해 문화체육관광부와 전북도는 사실과 다르다는 입장을 내놨다.

문체부는 “현재 전북은 국제경기대회 지원법과 국제행사 유치 규정에 따라 문체부·대한체육회와 협의 중이며, 올림픽 유치에 대해 부정적인 입장을 밝힌 적이 없다”며 “IOC와도 ‘지속 협의 단계(Continuous Dialogue)’에서 대회 계획을 논의하고 있는 단계일 뿐, 부적격 판정은 사실이 아니다”라고 설명했다.

전북도 역시 공식 입장문을 통해 “전주가 대한체육회 대의원총회에서 국내 유치신청도시로 최종 선정된 것은 공정하고 투명한 절차를 거친 결과”라며 “IOC의 새로운 절차에 따라 문화체육관광부, 대한체육회와 협력해 유치 계획을 보완해 나가고 있다”고 강조했다.

특히 재정 부담 논란과 관련해서는 “현행 규정에 따른 지방비 40% 부담 원칙을 완화하기 위한 제도 개선을 모색 중이며, 경기장 신설 없이 기존 시설을 활용해 경제적인 올림픽을 추진하고 있다”고 밝혔다. 또한 “전주가 마치 유치 확정 도시인 것처럼 홍보했다는 주장도 사실이 아니며, 국내 유치신청도시라는 공식 지위에 기반한 홍보였다”고 해명했다.

김관영 전북도지사는 “하계올림픽 유치는 전북의 미래를 바꾸는 국가적 과제이자 균형발전의 상징”이라며 “실현 가능하고 책임 있는 전략으로 투명하게 추진해 반드시 유치를 실현하겠다”고 말했다.

전북도는 앞으로 문체부, 대한체육회와 함께 범정부 올림픽 유치위원회를 구성해 국민적 공감대를 넓히고 국제 경쟁력을 강화해 나갈 계획이다.

Jeollabuk Special Autonomous Province has strongly refuted and responded to the recent suspicions raised in some media outlets regarding the disqualification of the bid for hosting the 2036 Jeonju Summer Olympics.

Previously, the Pressian reported on the 28th, with the headline *"Yoon Jun-byung 'Issues with compact arrangement of venues and over 40% burden of total project cost'... Emergency for hosting the 2036 Jeonju Summer Olympics?"*, expressing concerns about Jeollabuk's Olympic hosting plans. In response, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Jeollabuk Province stated that this was not true.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "Currently, Jeollabuk is in discussions with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee in accordance with the International Sports Events Support Act and regulations for attracting international events. We have never expressed a negative stance on hosting the Olympics," and explained, "We are in the stage of discussing the event plans with the IOC in a 'Continuous Dialogue' phase, and the disqualification judgment is not true."

Jeollabuk Province also emphasized through an official statement, "Jeonju being selected as the final candidate city for domestic application by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee was the result of a fair and transparent process," and stated, "In cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, we are enhancing the hosting plans according to the new procedures of the IOC."

Regarding the financial burden controversy, they mentioned, "We are seeking improvements in the system to relax the 40% local cost burden principle according to current regulations, and are promoting an economically feasible Olympics by utilizing existing facilities without building new stadiums." They also clarified, "The promotion that Jeonju was presented as if it were a confirmed hosting city is not true, and it was based on the official status as a domestic candidate city for application."

Governor Kim Kwan-young of Jeollabuk Province stated, "Hosting the Summer Olympics is a national task that will change the future of Jeollabuk and symbolize balanced development," and said, "We will transparently pursue the hosting with a feasible and responsible strategy to ensure its realization."

Jeollabuk Province plans to establish a cross-government Olympic hosting committee with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee in the future to broaden national consensus and enhance international competitiveness.
