대한장애인탁구협회(회장 박호석)가 주최하는 ‘제24회 대한장애인탁구협회장배 전국장애인탁구대회’가 11일 전주시 전주어울림국민체육센터에서 개막했다.
11일 열린 개회식에는 장춘배 명예회장을 비롯한 협회 임·직원, 전국 지부 회장단과 주요 관계자들, 우범기 전주시장과 남관우 전주시의회 의장을 비롯 대한장애인체육회 산하단체 회장단 및 임원과 심판위원장단이 참석했다.
박호석 회장은 개막사에서 “협회는 장애인탁구의 브랜드 가치를 높이는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다. 또한 올해 한·일수교 60주년 기념 교류전 성사에 이어 중국과의 교류전 추진, 나아가 북한을 포함한 동북아 4개국 교류전 개최라는 ‘작은 외교’ 목표를 제시해 큰 박수를 받았다.
이번 대회는 국내 최고 등급인 100점 랭킹 포인트가 걸린 전문대회로, 국가대표를 목표로 하는 320여 명의 선수가 참가했다.
한국 장애인탁구는 지난해 파리 패럴림픽에서 금 2개, 은 3개, 동 9개를 획득하며 종목 강국의 위상을 재확인했다. 특히 몇 년간의 어려움 속에서도 장애인탁구 저변은 오히려 확대됐으며, 휠체어 CLASS1~5, 스탠딩 CLASS6~10, 지적(11), 청각(DF)까지 모든 등급에서 단식 경기가 진행된다.
대한장애인탁구협회는 이번 대회 직후 같은 장소에서 2026년 국가대표 선발전을 연이어 개최할 예정이다.
한편 이번 대회에서는 참가한 모든 선수들에게 ‘신유빈 쌀’이 후원 물품으로 제공됐다.
