전북도립미술관(관장 이애선)이 2026년 전시 일정을 발표하며 국제성과 지역성을 아우르는 문화 허브로서의 역할을 이어간다. 올해도 도내 작가 지원과 함께 공간·장르 확장을 시도한다.

7월에는 현대미술 거장 파블로 피카소의 도자기 작품을 조명하는 특별전이 열린다. 프랑스 발로리스 시기의 조형 실험을 소개하는 이번 전시는 국립현대미술관 「MMCA 지역동행」 명작전 순회 전시로 마련됐다.

전북 미술사 연구 전시로는 정읍 출신 설치미술가 전수천(1947~2018)을 조명하는 《전수천: 언젠가 거인은 온다》가 3월 개막한다. 이어 10월에는 1987~1992년 전주에서 운영된 온다라미술관을 재조명해 지역 민중미술과 연대의 의미를 살핀다.

청년 작가 지원 전시 《전북청년 2026》은 서울분관에서 열리며, 김규리·조민지 작가가 참여한다. 키아프와 프리즈 서울 개최 시기에 맞춰 국제적 노출 효과도 기대된다.

이 밖에 신소장품전, 기증소장품 상설전, 대아수목원 내 대아스페이스 기획전, 찾아가는 미술관 사업도 이어진다. 시·군 공립미술관 협력전과 서울분관·전북도청 전시실 대관을 통해 지역 작가 지원도 강화한다.

또 모악산 일대 야외 전시와 예술정원 프로젝트, 영상 상영 프로그램 《JMA 필름》 등 공간과 장르 확장도 추진된다.

이애선 관장은 “전북 미술사 연구와 협력·연대의 성과를 확장해 가는 과정”이라며 “피카소 도예전을 계기로 미술관이 도민에게 더 가까운 공간이 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

The Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art, led by Director Lee Ae-sun, continues its role as a cultural hub encompassing international and local aspects by announcing its exhibition schedule for 2026. This year, the museum is also attempting to expand its space and genres along with supporting local artists in the province.

In July, a special exhibition highlighting the ceramic works of the modern art master Pablo Picasso will be held. This exhibition, introducing the sculptural experiments of the French Vallauris period, is prepared as a traveling exhibition of masterpieces from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, titled "MMCA Regional Companion."

In March, an exhibition on the Jeonju-born installation artist Jeon Su-cheon (1947-2018) titled "Jeon Su-cheon: Someday Giants Will Come" will open as a research exhibition on Jeonbuk art history. Following this, in October, the former Ondal Art Museum operated in Jeonju from 1987 to 1992 will be reexamined to explore the significance of local folk art and solidarity.

The exhibition supporting young artists titled "Jeonbuk Youth 2026" will be held at the Seoul branch, with artists Kim Gyu-ri and Cho Min-ji participating. It is also expected to have an international exposure effect in line with the timing of the KIAF and Frieze Seoul.

Additionally, there will be a new acquisitions exhibition, a permanent exhibition of donated artworks, a planned exhibition at the Daeaspace within the Daeah Arboretum, and outreach programs to bring art to the public. Strengthening support for local artists will also continue through collaborations with city and county public art museums, as well as renting exhibition spaces at the Seoul branch and the Jeonbuk Provincial Government building.

Furthermore, outdoor exhibitions in the Moak Mountain area, an art garden project, and a film screening program called "JMA Film" will be pursued to expand the museum's spaces and genres.

Director Lee Ae-sun stated, "It is a process of expanding Jeonbuk's art history research and collaboration and solidarity outcomes," adding, "I hope the art museum will become a space closer to the residents of the province, starting with the Picasso ceramics exhibition."
