전북도립미술관(관장 이애선)은 국립현대미술관(MMCA, 관장 김성희)이 추진하는 ‘MMCA 지역동행’ 사업 중 명작전 순회 기관으로 선정되어, 2026년 하반기 국립현대미술관 소장 피카소 도예 작품들을 선보이는 특별전을 개최한다고 밝혔다.

‘MMCA 지역동행’은 국립현대미술관의 우수 소장품과 콘텐츠를 지역 미술관과 공유·확산함으로써, 지역 간 문화 격차를 완화하고 국민의 미술 향유 기회를 확대하고자 기획된 협력 사업이다. 본 사업을 통해 국립현대미술관은 소장품 대여와 전시 콘텐츠를 제공하고, 지역 미술관은 전시 공간과 운영을 맡아 공동으로 전시를 완성해 나가게 된다.

전북도립미술관은 이번 사업을 통해 오는 7월부터 10월까지 ‘피카소 도예 PICASSO CERAMICS’(가제) 전시를 개최할 예정이다. 전시는 20세기 현대미술을 대표하는 예술가 파블로 피카소(Pablo Picasso, 1881~1973)의 도자 작업을 중심으로 구성되며, 입체주의의 창시자로 널리 알려진 피카소의 또다른 예술 세계를 조명한다. 특히 피카소가 도자라는 매체를 통해 실험한 조형적 자유와 예술적 사유를 집중적으로 소개함으로써, 관람객에게 피카소 예술 전반을 다각도로 이해할 수 있는 계기를 제공할 것으로 기대된다.

전북도립미술관 관계자는 “MMCA 지역동행 사업은 단순한 전시 대여를 넘어, 국립과 지역 미술관이 동반자로서 협력하는 의미 있는 모델”이라며, “이번 ‘피카소 도예’ 전시를 통해 전북 지역 관람객들이 세계적인 명작을 가까이에서 경험할 수 있는 기회가 되기를 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

이번 전시는 국립현대미술관과 전북도립미술관 업무협약을 바탕으로 추진되며, 작품 대여와 전시 기획과 홍보 등 전반에 걸쳐 양 기관의 협력 체계를 통해 진행된다. 전북도립미술관은 전시와 연계한 교육 프로그램과 해설 콘텐츠를 함께 운영하여 지역 관람객의 접근성과 이해도를 높일 계획이다.

The Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art (Director Lee Ae-seon) announced that it has been selected as a touring institution for the masterpiece exhibition as part of the "MMCA Regional Partnership" project led by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA, Director Kim Sung-hee), and will host a special exhibition showcasing Picasso ceramic works from the MMCA collection in the second half of 2026.

"MMCA Regional Partnership" is a collaborative project planned to alleviate cultural disparities between regions and expand opportunities for the public to appreciate art by sharing and disseminating outstanding collections and contents of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art with regional art museums. Through this project, the MMCA provides loaned collections and exhibition contents, while regional art museums take charge of exhibition spaces and operations to jointly complete the exhibitions.

The Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art is planning to hold the exhibition "Picasso Ceramics" (working title) from July to October this year through this project. The exhibition will be centered around the ceramic works of Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), a leading artist of 20th-century modern art, shedding light on another artistic world of Picasso widely known as the founder of Cubism. Particularly, by intensively introducing Picasso's experimental sculptural freedom and artistic reasoning through ceramics, it is expected to provide visitors with an opportunity to understand Picasso's art comprehensively from various perspectives.

An official from the Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art stated, "The 'MMCA Regional Partnership' project is a significant model where the National and regional art museums collaborate as partners beyond simple exhibition loans," and expressed hopes that the "Picasso Ceramics" exhibition will provide an opportunity for local visitors in Jeonbuk to experience world-renowned masterpieces up close.

This exhibition is being carried out based on a business agreement between the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art, with cooperation between the two institutions across all aspects, including artwork loans, exhibition planning, and promotion. The Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art plans to operate educational programs and interpretive contents in conjunction with the exhibition to enhance accessibility and understanding for local visitors.
